Learn all about the TOEFL to study abroad, The TOEFL is a test of proficiency offered by the Educational Testing Service. The non-profit organization is the largest educational testing organization in the world. Just out of curiosity, she is also the originator of the Graduate Record Examination GRE  a standardized test required for admission to graduate courses at some universities.

The exam is therefore divided into four parts to examine the candidate’s knowledge of these skills. On the TOEFL, you have the following sections: Reading, Listening, Speaking, and Writing.

Where is proof of proficiency accepted?

The TOEFL test is not only accepted in the United States. It is adopted in several places, including Canada and several other countries across Europe and Asia.

According to ETS, 100% of universities in Australia, New Zealand, and the UK accept TOEFL scores.

More than 11,000 institutions in over 150 countries accept the TOEFL as proof of English proficiency. Therefore, it is not for nothing that it is considered the most accepted test in the world.

About the English Proficiency Test sections:

TOEFL Reading:

Reading is the first item to be evaluated and usually consists of three or four texts of about 700 words. For each of them, you have to answer 10 questions in a total time of 55 to 72 minutes. The purpose of this part is to analyze your interpretation and understanding of academic level written materials.

TOEFL Listening:

Check your basic and pragmatic understanding of listening to people speaking in English. It is divided into two parts and lasts between 42 and 57 minutes. In the first one, you listen to audios with only one person speaking and, in the end, answer six questions about each one. In the second, they are dialogues between two people, about which, for each, five questions will be asked.

TOEFL Speaking:

It is divided into four questions, in the first one you can defend your ideas, and in the others, you must base them on audio and texts. The latter is a little more complicated because you’ll have to make relationships between them, but all these skills are helpful when you’re studying abroad and interacting at university.

TOEFL Writing:

The Writing, where the candidate must write two texts in 50 minutes. One of them will be an answer to a question and you should write based on what you have read and heard about the question. The other is essay writing, in which you must express your opinion on a certain topic.

What score do I need on the TOEFL ?

The TOEFL  score is intended to reflect the candidate’s actual abilities fairly and impartially. Each part of the test has a score ranging from 0 to 30, totaling 120, which is therefore the maximum score. Normally, the minimum that universities ask for varies between 70 and 110.

How long does it take to get a TOEFL test score?

According to ETS, the final result usually comes out about six days after taking the test. By paying the standard fee, your grades can be sent to four universities whichever you choose, of course.

To do this, you need to register and create a profile on the TOEFL website. In the portal, you will select the institutions using the respective codes, which are usually available on the websites of the universities. This must be done no later than 10 pm the day before your exam.
