Astronomy Scholarship Africa 2022, In 2024, good news for students and seekers who are looking for scholarships because Africa announces astronomy scholarship Africa 2022 and Cape Town, South Africa, will host the 32nd General Assembly of the International Astronomical Union. The General Assembly will be convened in Africa for the first time in over 100 years of the IAU’s existence, providing a unique opportunity to highlight the continent’s innovative research infrastructure and first-class scientific excellence.

National Organizing Committee wishes to provide high-impact Astronomy in Africa Scholarships for qualified African applicants ahead of the 32nd General Assembly to coincide with this historic event. Starting in 2023, the scholarships will enable outstanding individuals to complete a two-year Master of Science (MSc) degree in South Africa.

Benefits of Astronomy in Africa Scholarships

  • The Africa 2024 Scholarships will cover international student fees, one international return flight, visa fees, health insurance, accommodation, and a stipend.

Africa Astronomy Requirements Scholarships

  1. Applicants from any African country are eligible to apply for the Africa Astronomy Scholarship.
  2. Applicants must be eligible to register for a Master’s Degree at a South African university specializing in astrophysics or astronomy.
  3. Applicants must liaise with potential leaders of recognized South African universities.
  4. Potential supervisors must provide a cover letter of support for the candidate, which includes a summary of the proposed research project.

Selection process

  1. Shortlisting will be done by the GA 2024 NOC Science Subcommittee together with external reviewers.
  2. Applicants will be selected based on academic grades, quality of motivation, suitability for research as assessed by a letter of recommendation and resume, and an appropriate letter of support from a potential supervisor.
  • Diversity and regional representation will be taken into account in the shortlisting process. Preference will be given to candidates from other countries.
  1. Selected candidates will be invited to a virtual interview from October 24 to November 4, 2022.
  2. Successful applicants (and leaders) will be notified during the week of November 7-11, 2022.
